Tracking Your Web Site
You will want to find a way to track your visitors. www.StatCounter.com is a great place to start. It’s free and will log your last 100 page
visits. Once you start to get more than 100 page loads a day, you can upgrade.
There are other tracking sites out there, so do a search and check them out. Just remember to ensure you place the HTML code you are given by
the tracking web site on every page you want tracked.
If you have side navigation that is universal throughout your site, placing your code once in here will ensure every page is tracked.
There are several reasons for tracking visitors so it is important you do it. Some of them are –
· Tracking where you’re visitors are coming from, such as search engines, directories, ads etc.
· What keywords they are using to find your site.
· Where they go on your site once they have found you.
There is another tracker you can use by Google, called Google Analytics. I personally use both and prefer Stat Counter, but the Google version
does have features that Stat Counter doesn’t.
Tasks:
1. Find and place tracking code on every page of your site (hint: if you're using a web site builder such as X-Site Pro, you can simply place
the code in the page layout area once, and it will be tracked on all pages!).
