Press Releases
Press releases are a great marketing tool for many reasons, which I’ll explain soon, but one of those reasons is because most web site owners don’t do them.
A press release is a newsworthy story written about your web site. It is written in the third person, and should be about an event that has happened to your business.
One of the best ways to describe a press release is the opening of a business. When you finish building your web site, write a press release about your business and how it is opening its cyber doors for the first time to the general Internet public.
You must write the release as if it’s being written by a third party, such as a journalist, and even have quotes, from you, in there as if the journalist asked you a question.
For the first paragraph, you need to concentrate the 2 to 3 sentences on What, Why, Who, When and Where, because your press release needs to be factual.
If you can, support your facts with links to other information (you may need to ask permission from the authors).
What this does is make your press release appear newsworthy, rather than look like an advertisement. If it looks like an advertisement, re-write it!
You would also use this initial press release to explain the USP of your business, such as what makes your business different from your competitors and how this benefits customers (always remembering to write it in the third person), such as how easy it is to navigate around your site.

Another reason for writing press releases is for search engine ranking.
When you submit a press release to certain press release websites, you instantly gain search engine recognition. Sometimes more than other times, but you always get noticed.
You will actually find, that if you write press releases around a certain keyword phrase (one you have used for your site), your press release will get very high rankings on Google, before your actual web site does!
A third reason for writing press releases is for exposure. A journalist or magazine editor may come across your press release and ask you if they can add it to their e-zine, paper etc.
This will give you added exposure, and add back links to your site, so you can see that the benefits are quite large.
Two great sites to start submitting press releases to are http://www.prweb.com and http://www.24-7pressrelease.com.
24-7 Press Release will even allow you to add links to your release for free, which means you can emphasise certain keywords in your release and direct them straight to the relevant page on your web site.
Both sites will allow you to submit for free, and this is good because you want to be writing 2- 3 press releases a month, at least. Every two to three months though, you should pay for a press release, as it will give you many added bonuses such as higher placements and more exposure.
Tasks:
1. Review http://www.prweb.com/pressreleasetips.php to understand how to write a good press release. 2. Write at least 2 to 3 press releases a month and pay a small contribution at least once every 3 months. 3. Submit all press releases to the above sites and look for more submission sites.
